Overriding the silent mode switch to bypassing the silent or mute mode of a smartphone makes absolute sense in case of critical alarms. SIGNL4 offers multiple options in this regard.
Push notifications on iPhones
- On the iPhone first go to Settings > Notifications Find the Signl4 app, select it and ensure Critical Alerts is enabled
- Next open the Signl4 mobile app
- Click on the settings Cog in the top right of the home screen
- Select Signaling
- On this screen enable the Critical Alerts Enabled option and set the volume for the critical alerts.
- Enabling this option enables another option in your Signl4 Categories, Navigate back one screen and select the Signl Categories option
- On this screen select a team you wish to override alerts on, then select a category
- Inside of the Category will be an option for Critical Alert, enable this to override silent for this category.
- Repeat steps 7&8 for any team/category the user wants to be alerted even through silent mode.
- Once enabled any alert in this category will override the silent mode on the phone.
Phone calls
It is possible to set up an emergency bypass that allows calls from certain users. This allows to use the SIGNL4 voice call feature as a workaround. However, if the hardware mute is on, the phone will only vibrate. We think that Apple should definitely make improvements here. Here is a description of how to set up the emergency bypass: https://lifehacker.com/ios-10s-emergency-bypass-feature-forces-calls-and-texts-1786722365
Push notifications on Android
Android does not have this hardware mute switch but a "Do not disturb" mode. We have described how to allow exceptions for Push notifications and Calls here. Please note that this can differ for each Android version: https://www.signl4.com/blog/true-smart-mobile-pager-app/
