Flood protection in SIGNL4 prevents you from being spammed with notifications, e.g. in case of a major incident where multiple systems are affected and report problems.
Without flood protection (and without event correlation which is a more challenging task) you'd receive multiple (and too many) notifications.
Thus, we've implemented a mechanism to prevent too many alert notification messages, including push, text and voice calls.
SIGNL4 monitors all notifications being sent to each user. If the number of notifications per channel (push, text, voice call) exceed 5 within 1 minute, SIGNL4 will stop any further notification messages. It will send you a final notification that too many alerts have been raised and that flood protection has been activated.
Flood protection is automatically disabled if the implemented algorithm 'thinks', the alert flood has ended. The earliest time for disabling flood protection is 1 minute after the last flood.
For the avoidance of doubt: Flood protection only prevents notifications from being sent to you. The Signls (alerts) are still shown and indicated as 'new' in the mobile app and elsewhere.
